Welcome to a typical Tuesday in our house: someone’s screaming, someone’s shedding, someone’s knocking over a glass of water, and it’s not always who you think.
My husband and I both work full-time in emergency services — which means we operate on weird hours, unpredictable sleep, and amounts of caffeine that should legally be classified as a performance-enhancing drug. Add two young kids and three extremely opinionated Maine Coon cats to the mix, and things start to resemble a bad Netflix Original… but with fewer commercial breaks and more litter boxes.
Controlled Chaos (Emphasis on the Chaos)
You might think having three cats would be relaxing. You’d be wrong. These are Maine Coons — majestic, fluffy, dog-sized creatures with the intermittent vertical trajectory of a feline ballistic missile. One knocks the painting off the wall (again). One asks for food. And the other is hiding stuff under the couch.
Meanwhile, the kids are attempting parkour off the couch, and one of us is getting ready for a 24-hour shift. I am tending to business in between mountains of laundry and blowing the occasional tail out of my camera frame.
And yet… somehow it works. (Mostly.)
The Business Side of the Circus
Running a business from home in the middle of this beautiful chaos has taught me a lot. How to multitask like a pro, make phone calls in the the bathroom with my foot against the door, and finding creative ways to keep fur out of everything.
Top Shelf Maine Coons isn’t just a cattery, it’s a passion project, a labor of love, and a full-on family affair. The kids help socialize kittens, the cats help supervise (badly), and my husband and I juggle shift change. It’s never glamorous, but it’s real. And somehow, in the noise and fur and madness, we’re building something we’re proud of.
P.S……My husband is a saint
Real Talk Though
Some days, I’m ahead of schedule, the house is shiny clean, and everyone eats a vegetable.
Other days, I’m answering emails from the laundry room while the toddler tries to jump off the fridge, and the cats knock over my 3rd cup of coffee. Just for sport.
But this is the life we’ve built, imperfect, unpredictable, and full of heart.
It’s chaotic. It’s messy. It’s loud.
And it’s ours.
Why This Blog Exists
This blog isn’t just about cats, I mean yes, there will be many of them, probably scratching on things they shouldn’t. It’s about the real-life rhythm behind the cute pics: raising a family, running a business, showing up to shift work, and somehow making it all fit in the same day.
If you’re here for helpful advice, a peek behind the scenes, or just need reassurance that you’re not the only one juggling chaos with a side of cat hair , you’re in good company.
This space is for the messy, meaningful, middle part of life.
